Ombre

The newest hairstyle trend that seems to be taking over is ombre. What is ombre, you ask? It’s a two-toned hair color that gradually fades as you move from roots to tips. When done in a subtle way, it can be flattering. However, it seems that more often than not, it’s just a bad idea. Still not sure what ombre is? I’ll show you.

And ombre gone wrong. Sorry LC, you’re usually a fashion icon but it kind of looks like you just haven’t dyed your hair in awhile…

A better take on the ombre trend (in my opinion) is ombre nails! Same rules apply – gradual change in color. There are two ways to rock this look. Option one, paint each nail a progressively different shade from the same color palate. Or option two, create an ombre effect on each individual nail so that the color becomes darker or lighter as it moves towards the tips of each finger.

What do you think of this look? I’d go ombre nails over ombre hair any day.

Hot Lips

Lips are meant to be accentuated! Simply slap on some lip colour to highlight your best natural accessory – your lips! Various hues of lip color can be used to create the perfect, classic look and make you feel ultra-chic. There are quite a few brands to choose from to achieve this bold, mysterious look. Here are a few of my faves…

The “Just Bitten” line by Revlon works wonders in creating a lasting lip color. Lip stains create a matte finish but require fewer touch-ups resulting in a defined, dark look that is easy to maintain.

Want to create a luscious, glossy look? The “Lipglass” collection by MAC is the best way to do this! They have an abundance of bright, rich hues to choose from. My personal favourite is called “pink poodle”. Want to plump up your pucker while adding a tint of color? I suggest the “Plushglass” collection by MAC to get that bee-stung look sans botox.

Whether you decide to go with a deep blood red, a bright cherry hue or a passionate purple tinge, lip color should be treated as an accessory. A way to accentuate even the simplest of outfits. A bold lip color combined with subtle eyes creates a timeless look that personifies beauty.

Adele

Adele is not Canadian. She’s British. But her music has touched many countries, this one included. The quality of her voice is unparalleled. I cannot recall the last time I heard  a song that captured so perfectly the raw emotion of heartbreak. The lyrics are beautifully composed and perfectly poetic. When sung in her raspy, soulful voice she is able to do what many singer-songwriters spend their entire careers trying to achieve; she is able to connect with her audience. Beyond her obvious talent, her look further seperates her from the norm.

Adele is not a cookie-cutter pop star by any means. Perhaps what I enjoy most about her is that she doesn’t conform to society’s expectation of beauty. She dresses elegantly and unlike most female pop icons, remains covered up. (gasp!) Though she is not a size 2 she could not be more beautiful.

She is honest and candid. A true artist. One that is relatable and admirable. The music industry has not seen talent like this since… well I can’t even think of anyone to compare her to. Her music stands on its own. My favourite song of hers at the moment is called “Someone Like You”. Take a listen and you’ll see what I’ve been going on about.
