The newest hairstyle trend that seems to be taking over is ombre. What is ombre, you ask? It’s a two-toned hair color that gradually fades as you move from roots to tips. When done in a subtle way, it can be flattering. However, it seems that more often than not, it’s just a bad idea. Still not sure what ombre is? I’ll show you.
Subtle ombre color done well…
And ombre gone wrong. Sorry LC, you’re usually a fashion icon but it kind of looks like you just haven’t dyed your hair in awhile…
A better take on the ombre trend (in my opinion) is ombre nails! Same rules apply – gradual change in color. There are two ways to rock this look. Option one, paint each nail a progressively different shade from the same color palate. Or option two, create an ombre effect on each individual nail so that the color becomes darker or lighter as it moves towards the tips of each finger.
What do you think of this look? I’d go ombre nails over ombre hair any day.
First came the red lips… now RED PANTS! Colored pants are everywhere! Mint, sky blue, violet, yellow, burnt orange, coral – all of these colors are not only acceptable bottoms but stylish ones as well!
They’re best when paired with a neutral top and neutral shoes. But if you’d like to add a little more flair then complimentary colored tops will work. If ever you don’t know what to pair them with – accessorize! An armful of bangles, long chain necklaces or a fedora would do. Oh and colored shorts are wicked too.
The bun is back! But it is no longer the tightly-wound, hairspray helmet of ballerina girls. It’s a little more casual and chic these days and any girl can rock it! My advice? Go with a messy bun over super-polished one.
Braids are another way to change up your hairstyle in a simple way. Any solitary french braid, fishtail or three-strand braid will do. And again – make it an unkempt, just-got-outta-bed look.
The hottest hair trend right now is FEATHERS! First it was feather headbands and hair clips…
Now this trend has graduated to feather extensions! The best ones are made of real bird feathers (usually roosters). I have a few in my hair right now. They’re fun and edgy but blend subtly into my dark layers.
You can go with the striped, natural colored feathers or add some bright colors like pink or blue if you’re feeling a little bold. I got mine done by a vendor at Boonstock music festival but you can purchase them from most salons and your hairdresser will put them in for you. They have little metal clips that fasten onto the hair and last for up to 8 weeks!
Have fun with this playful, avian-inspired accessory!
It’s that time of year when us girls hit the beaches in our sexiest swimwear. The ultimate swimwear line, in my opinion, is Victoria’s Secret. The options are endless and affordable! I like to shop online for the largest selection but the VS store in West Edmonton Mall also carries swimwear. Some of this year’s hottest suits are…
The balconet top with slight push-up is a definite way to enhance your features. This particular bikini has an underwire which allows you to order in bra size to get the perfect fit! Any color in this suit would be flattering but animal print is always a fun, flirty option.
Mix and match styles are always in! Who said your bikini top had to match your bottoms to be cute?
Finally, the subtly sexy monokini is a must-have. It’s a great way to show off your curves and provide a little more coverage if you don’t feel comfortable sporting a two-piece.
I walked away with two important accessories for summer from Sunday’s Lilac Festival; a sunburn (but soon to be tan) and these lovely earrings.
We saw quite a few variations of the feathered earring on display, but these really caught my eye. You can pick these up and other feathered accessories through Karly Thompson of She’s So boutique by visiting her facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/ShesSo
