Support Local Artists: Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market

This past Saturday we took an afternoon stroll through the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market and were pleased to find some interesting vendors there! We sampled (and purchased) chocolate peanut butter covered nibs, lemon dill mustard and organic wine. And we found some cute, handmade rings and necklaces!

There were beautiful potted flowers and herbs and a multitude of other crafts and creations! The Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market is just off Whyte Ave and is open from 8am to 3pm every Saturday. Whichever city you live in, be sure to check out your local farmers’ market. You never know what you’ll find!

LB and JR

Fave casual trend right now? Oversized, soft denim tops! Dark or faded, this look combines the boyfriend shirt with the traditional jean jacket. Perfect!

Best worn with neutral (preferably black) leggings, skinny pants or shorts. Avoid denim on denim… unless you’re headed to a rodeo.

The newest hairstyle trend that seems to be taking over is ombre. What is ombre, you ask? It’s a two-toned hair color that gradually fades as you move from roots to tips. When done in a subtle way, it can be flattering. However, it seems that more often than not, it’s just a bad idea. Still not sure what ombre is? I’ll show you.

Subtle ombre color done well…

And ombre gone wrong. Sorry LC, you’re usually a fashion icon but it kind of looks like you just haven’t dyed your hair in awhile…

A better take on the ombre trend (in my opinion) is ombre nails! Same rules apply – gradual change in color. There are two ways to rock this look. Option one, paint each nail a progressively different shade from the same color palate. Or option two, create an ombre effect on each individual nail so that the color becomes darker or lighter as it moves towards the tips of each finger.

What do you think of this look? I’d go ombre nails over ombre hair any day.

Colored Pants

First came the red lips… now RED PANTS! Colored pants are everywhere! Mint, sky blue, violet, yellow, burnt orange, coral – all of these colors are not only acceptable bottoms but stylish ones as well!

They’re best when paired with a neutral top and neutral shoes. But if you’d like to add a little more flair then complimentary colored tops will work. If ever you don’t know what to pair them with – accessorize! An armful of bangles, long chain necklaces or a fedora would do. Oh and colored shorts are wicked too.

After all, it is almost summertime…

Support Local Artists: A Tribute to The Citadel

To all the men, women and children that were part of any Citadel production this season… BRAVO! I had the pleasure of viewing 5 shows: Death of a Salesman, The Rock Horror Show, God of Carnage, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Sound of Music. What an eclectic mix! From dramas to comedies to musicals, each show was equally entertaining and fascinating! The acting and vocals were astounding, the set and costume design were fabulous and the special effects were magnificent! Each production could not run smoothly without the hard work of many actors, stagehands, directors, and various other crew members. Live theatre truly is incredible and experiencing each of these plays in one of the intimate theatres at the Citadel was definitely worth-while. In my opinion, the Citadel is one of Edmonton’s best treasures!
